CNMP Update Questions

Stack of Records“Is my CNMP out of date?” is a frequent question we get.  Recently we have been fielding a few more calls about CNMP updates and we thought it would be a good idea to help clarify things.

As stated on your CNMP signature page, and in the CAFO permit, farms are supposed to update their CNMPs every three years, or following significant changes. Significant changes mean changes on the order of 10% or greater land base or animal numbers. However significant changes can also mean changes to how manure is handled or treated. Read through Section 4 of your CNMP. Does that still accurately describe your farm and the processes you are using? If so, then take a look at the field summary in Section 7 and the maps in Section 12. If things have changed, let’s get together to bring things up-to-date.

If nothing significant has changed, an update to your soil tests and crop plan is all you will likely need. We can get that done fairly quickly and you’ll be good for another 3 years.  Contact CJD Farm Consulting to determine if you need an update and what it is going to take.
